Description

:new: She placed 3th! We are VERY proud since she and Oliver kinda screw up out on that event. ^^

I had this sketch laying around for about a week. I really liked the pose and the feeling it gave, but just hadn't got the spirit to finish it. But I really wanted to now that I'm busy with commissions, because it was all ready and set, the only thing missing was the background. That had been the problem all along and today it wouldn't work either, but I decided to leave it as it is now and just post it. I somehow like the simplicity of the background but nah. :/

Name Show: Ballendene Classic
Horse Name: Sympathy For The Devil
Rider Name: Oliver Lockheart
Class: Show Jumping

He had felt it in his nerves from the day they arrived in the other country on the lands of the stable that held the competition. Their first competition went perfectly fine. They hadn't made a single mistake and were too quite fast, thanks to Sympathy that led him through the jumping parcours. But today the mare felt different. She had been whinnying since the trailer stopped on the property and when he unloaded her she almost broke atleast two of her legs with jumping and rearing off the loading bridge. She threw her head up, flickered her ears against her neck and had kicked one of her back legs in the sky. She didn't stood still for even a second.
And he tried to calm her down, get her back to her mind again, but she just wouldn't listen. It took him an hour to get her to function normally again. But still he had the feeling that the harmony between them has was gone for now.
He had put her on one of the paddocks since they were very early, so she could loosen her frustration and energy a bit. He had no idea where this all was coming from, he just hoped it would be all back to normal again before he would get into the competition ring.

"Hey girl," he said while he stopped by the fence. "Are you ready?" He looked at the spotted black mare. She still acted a bit out of the ordinary and quite bitchy towards the gelding that stood in the paddock next to her. She snorted loudly and shook her head and started moving her ass towards the fence where he was standing. Just before her nose touched his jacket she flipped her ears back forwards, as if she wanted to tell him she was sorry.
"It's okay." He softly touched her neck and stroke her furry coat. After a few minutes standing there and cuddling her he slipped a halter on her head to lead her out of the paddock and tack her up so they could do some warming up before they had to enter the arena.

With a soft touch of his legs he got her into a soft trot and they entered the arena together. Everything seemed to be back to normal again. He smiled and concentrated himself on his horse, ignoring the few people that stood outside of the arena. "You can do it," he said softly while he petted her shoulder shortly. "We can do it," he repeated, now more against himself.
As soon as the bell rung she threw up her speed to a strong gallop. They neared the first jump and that was where the trouble started. He wanted to lead her so she wouldn't jump to early and made a mistake, but her thought were very different from that and she wouldn't change her plans for him. She threw her head up highly, pulling the reins almost out of his hands. She snorted loudly and flickered her ears back, speeding up her steps. A step to early she took off and jumped over the obstacle almost like a three legged unicorn. But she made it. Her back hoove softly touched the pole, but it didn't fall off.
Oliver tried to take her back to a slow gallop or to a controlled gallop, even though it would mean they would loose in time. "Please," he murmured while he struggled with the horse beneath him. But Sympathy still hold on to her own game and he didn't know if this would end well. She took the bit between her jaw and kept up with her own speed and thought. She went way too fast and didn't listened to him anymore, so Oliver just made a cross in his mind and made sure he wouldn't fall off and lead her a little here and there so she wouldn't make a dead jump. He just prayed they would make it safely over the finish line.

Awesome wicked-lookin horse and wow, she was having a bad mare day or something, wasn't she? I like the background and the pose and the markings. :la:
